2022 Winter Program Updates

SHARE

School-Age Child Care this winter continues to close the literacy gap.  Our volunteer literacy team is back working one on one with the girls.  Their social-emotional health is at the forefront, and our team uses a trauma-informed approach in all our programs.

We are excited to see the Middle School girls back in the building at 50 High Street.
The girls regularly participate in activities geared toward social emotional well-being. Included in our Girls Inc. Fun Friday events:

  • Creating cards for gun violence survivors
  • Learning about proper hygiene
  • Taking cooking classes and learning about healthy eating

The girls will hold a Spirit Day featuring a wacky fashion show and creative videos. The Bold Future mentoring group starts this month, too.

Girls Inc.’s commitment to STEM education remains at the core of our middle school program, with SMART (Science, Math, and Relevant Technology) career awareness and a demonstrations summit hosted by our high school peer leaders.

Our Teen Programs are in full swing. The seniors have finished their college applications. Acceptances are starting to come in and they are also hard at work on scholarship applications.

Our Teen Leadership Academy kicks off this month. We look forward to seeing the girls develop skills that they will carry with them for a lifetime.

The four Peer Leadership programs will be hosting weekly lessons with the middle school girls.

The Part of the Solution peer leaders hosted a gun violence survivors event.

The Beach Sisters are working with teens from Salem Sound Coastwatch on marine debris initiatives.

The STEM Peer Leaders are preparing for the Annual SMART Girls Summit.

Teen Health Advisors
are participating in a body positivity workshop.

The Boston Program is going strong at the PA Shaw School in Mattapan and the Holmes School in Dorchester.  The Be Bold Program is being offered to buoy girls’ confidence and to better understand their personal power. Literacy will be a primary focus this winter as well.
