Girls Inc. of Lynn is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold. Since 1942, Girls Inc. of Lynn has responded to the changing needs of girls and their families by providing essential resources and challenging programs to disadvantaged, low-income girls. We serve over a thousand girls every year.
Girls Inc. of Lynn is a local affiliate of the national Girls Inc. organization with roots dating back to 1864. The national organization provides vital educational programs to millions of girls in America and Canada, particularly those in high-risk, under-served areas. Girls Inc. of Lynn is proud to be part of a national movement dedicated to improving the lives of girls and consequently bettering their communities and the entire country.
Girls Inc. of Lynn inspires all girls to be strong, smart and bold through life-changing programs and experiences that help girls navigate gender, economic and social barriers. Research-based curricula, delivered by trained, mentoring professionals in a positive all-girl environment equip girls to achieve academically, lead healthy and physically active lives, manage money, navigate media messages, and discover an interest in science, technology, engineering and math.
Each program is an essential piece of the Girls Inc. of Lynn experience that is structured to provide girls with a strong foundation on which they can build future successes. Literacy programs in School Aged Child Care work to combat summer learning loss and set girls on a confident and favorable academic track. When girls reach the Middle School Programs, their educational horizons are broadened as they explore the subjects of science, technology, engineering and math, fields that women are not often encouraged to pursue. As the girls move to the Teen Programs, they draw on these foundational skills, attitudes and knowledge to assume roles as peer leaders and explore opportunities for their future through college and career mentoring programs. This holistic, compensatory and intentional programming focuses on the girls’ needs to provide them with exposure to a wide variety of experiences and options that they might not have encountered otherwise.
Advocacy
Girls Inc. is a vigorous advocate for all girls. We work with our policy makers at the local, state and national level to keep them informed about girls’ needs and ways to improve the lives of girls and young women. We also educate the media about critical issues facing girls. Our teen members learn how to advocate for themselves and proudly testify at local and state public hearings on key issues impacting their lives, families, and neighborhoods using their voices to impact positive change.
The Girls’ Bill of Rights serves as the foundation for all of our work. These rights shape our responses to the difficult social issues facing girls, and serve as a powerful platform for empowering girls.
